Prof Karl Lewis visits the Verbruggen Lab!
Prof Karl Lewis visits the Verbruggen Lab as part of the Cornell-QMUL Global Hubs Initiative. Karl shared the Lewis Lab’s ground-breaking intravital imaging of osteocytes, and gave a wonderful talk at the Royal Veterinary College for the Bloomsbury Centre for Skeletal Research.

Verbruggen Lab research recognised at QMUL Faculty Awards
Dr Stefaan Verbruggen was awarded the “Outstanding Contribution to Research Award” at the Annual Faculty of Science and Engineering Celebration for his research contributions in the development of organ-chip models.

Stefaan paid a visit to Prof Karl Lewis’ lab at Cornell University to kick off their Cornell-QMUL Global Hubs collaboration. Lots of great discussions, and plans for new osteocyte mechanobiology projects!

Colleagues from UCSF visit the Verbruggen Lab!
Prof Christopher Hernandez and Prof Kelsey Collins paid a research visit to QMUL, and gave fantastic research presentations at the Bloomsbury Skeletal Research Centre. This also marked the kick-off of Chris and Stefaan’s EPSRC-funded “Microbiome-Bone Chip” project, which Natalia will be conducting at the CPM!

Stefaan, and collaborator Dr Fiona Freeman, paid a research visit to the Collins, Hernandez and Alliston Labs at University of California, San Francisco. As well as giving talks and sparking new ideas, time was found for some sightseeing and margaritas!

Areli presented her work on an an organ-chip model of bone-immune crosstalk at the 2023 meeting of the BioMedEng Society. Mia also presented her work unpicking the molecular mechanisms behind preterm births.
